IM
Instant messaging products help users build personal real time communication like chat rooms. They support several online services such as instant messaging, files transmission, online gaming, audio and vedio interaction, or even remote access.
 
IM applications, such as Skype, MSN, can be used as effective tool for an organization to interact with its branch offices and customers, helping decrease cost. However, if not well controlled, these applications may bring problems and challenges.
-  Employees abuse of IM during working hours may negatively impact productivity.
-  Uncontrolled use of IM, information and attachment transmission may place an organization into data leakage risk.
-  Open access to IM give spreading revenue to malware like virus, Trojan, spyware, backdoor, etc.
Granular Control and Audit Policy
Anchiva is not to block access to IM completely, instead, offers granular, flexible and comprehensive policy-based control:
-  Control IM based on application protocol or specific feature. Provide respective control and management to sub-applications such as MSN messages, attachment transmission, games, audio and vedio.
-  Offter department, user-based policies to IM control. For example, allow customer services staff use IM to facilitate communication with customers, while stop RD members, finance and human resource staff from accessing IM.
-  Time quota: Choose policies to allow access based on hours of the day and days of the week. For example, limit users to IM for an hour during lunch time.
-  Provide both beforehand control and afterwards audit to IM. For example, support audit to MSN and Yahoo chat room.
-  Build suitable policy over IM control. For example, only messages are allowed, whereas attachment transmission is prohibited to cut malware spreading channel for a safer network.
